Al-Anfushitombs

 

Al-Anfushitombs:

The five tombs in Anfoushy date back to the Ptolemic age. They werediscovered in 1901 AD, and painted to simulate alabaster and marble, decorated with pictures of Egyptian gods and daily life, and graffiti dating from the same period.

Alabaster Tomb (Latin Cemeteries):

The Alabaster Tombs are part of the Latin cemeteries discovered in Shatby. It consists of a squared-off alabaster portal which used to leadto a great tomb. This Tomb might be a part of Alexander the Great’s Tomb. It dated back to the 3rd century BC .

Borg Al Arab and Abu Sir District:

The Abu Sir area is Situated on the Alexandria Matrouh road. During the 3rd century, this place was the city of Taposiris. The remains found in this area consists mainly of a temple of Osiris, a lighthouse and few roman cemeteries. Also on the road between Abu Sir and Borg El Arab, two sites has been discovered: A roman winepress and a pottery factory.

Gabbari Tombs:

The Greaco-Roman museum contains about 40,000 rare antique pieces, which trace the historical steps of a period beginning at the IIIrd century BC until the VIIth century AD Among the most remarkable collections, we can find the “Tanafra” Statue made of terracotta as
well as ancient money pieces.
